Not far from Trieste, in the heart of Friuli, there is an exquisite little town which this year was voted the most beautiful village of Italy. It’s a small medieval village named Venzone which is famous for its fragrant lavender, its high walls, and an air of times past. A strategic crossroads in ancient times and during the Middle Ages, Venzone is located at the foothills of the Julian Alps near the Austrian and Slovenian border, surrounded by greenery and nature.
This year, as in every year, the “Festa della Zucca” (Pumpkin Festival), a pageant with ancient origins which was revived in 1991, will take place on the fourth weekend of October. It’s a not-to-be-missed event for those who want to fully immerse themselves in the local traditions.
The gathering will take place on October 21 and 22 2017, two days of festivities during which the pumpkin will reign supreme, the entire town will light up with magic and history, and the streets will be filled with noblemen, ladies and knights with lit torches, in an authentic medieval setting. The event will feature music and dances, contests with prizes, acrobats and fire-eaters, and, of course, tastings of pumpkin-based dishes accompanied by excellent wines.
We will bring you to Venzone to discover all this: in addition to the Italian courses, we offer an interesting cultural program in which you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a magical setting, as if you were in a fifteenth century fairy tale.
