Further education and lifelong learning are fundamental in the 21st Century, for every kind of extra qualification enhances individual personal development and increases your career prospects. Some German states have standardised further education incentives in their employment rights. This kind of further education incentive takes shape as so-called educational leave (Bildungsurlaub BU) and is thus a solid and essential part of the German education system. The basic requirement for being entitled to educational leave is recognising the Italian language course in the German state where you are registered.
As there are no standard regulations concerning educational leave, you should ask your employer if this kind of further education is also available in your company.
What is educational leave?
Educational leave allows employees to take five calendar days of further training annually. This means you are given leave from work while your salary continues to be paid as you attend a course at a recognised institute. A language course also falls into this kind of further education category.
The school is expected to fulfil specific criteria and requirements depending on the German state. The German states allowing educational leave check the respective language schools and their language courses for the following standards:
- Quality of the teachers and professors at the language schools
- Quality of the material/equipment at the language schools
- Quality of the method of learning at the language schools
- Quality of the didactic lesson concept in the language courses
The certified language courses with this seal of quality can be used as educational leave.
Educational leave enhances the education and motivation of every employee!
