MARCO POLO TURANDOT FOR CHINESE STUDENTS

Following the circular memo of the Italian Ministry, we offer a Marco Polo and Turandot Programme for the academic year 2021-22, with respective Italian language courses 2020-21, specially designed to meet Chinese learners’ needs.

 

With an innovative, highly productive, and effective pragmatic-communicative approach, focused on real communication and on socio-cultural aspects of local realities, educational activities include experiences at home and outdoors. This will enable you to discover the city, the region, and the surrounding areas you live in while getting to know up close Italy and its culture.

Students will thus be able to get to know the beauty of  Italy while completely immersed in the language and culture and having the opportunity to learn the Italian language by experiencing it. A tutor speaking Chinese will be available on a regular basis to clarify queries, which may arise during the period of study.

Italian language course start and duration

Within the Marco Polo 2020-2021 framework, students can choose a study path of

10 months from November 2, 2020 to August 27, 2021
(1094 lessons divided into lessons and extracurricular activities as listed below)

11 months from October 5, 2020 to August 27, 2021
(1201 lessons divided into lessons and extracurricular activities as listed below)

National and School Holidays for the MPT Programme

– December 08 (Immaculate Conception)
– December 21 to January 01 (Christmas Holidays)
– January 06 (Epiphany)
– February 12 (Chinese News Year)
– April 05 (Easter Monday)
– June 02 (Republic Day)

No lessons will take place on these days.

Content of educational programme


The basic didactic and cultural activity includes:

  • Frontal Italian language lessons;
  • Daily conversation activities include grammar lessons, acquisition of vocabulary and development of communication skills.

Extra curricular activities include:

  • Laboratories for the development of linguistic-communicative skills (LAB-COM);
  • Workshops and seminars on Italian culture and civilization (LAB-CIV);
  • Indoor and outdoor project work activities;
  • Cultural workshops in Italian;
  • Educational field trips to discover local and regional places of historical and artistic interest (UNESCO sites included) by bus or boat;
  • Guided tours in Italian;
  • Cinema: weekly screenings of Italian films in Italian with subtitles and preceded by a teacher’s initial presentation;
  • Library service with advice on choosing books and magazines.

All students will have to take an entrance test, after which they will be placed in homogeneous working groups of a maximum of 20 students each.

At the end of each module, each student will take a test to verify the actual progress made and monitor any difficulties.

A final CILS or CELI international proficiency exam is scheduled at the end of the programme in order to assess the student’s level.

Objective
  • Development of the 4 language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) through a pragmatic-communicative approach;
  • Preparation for the CILS and CELI certification exams inhouse, for any kind of test to enrol at university in Italy or a music conservatory.
Size of groups

This course will be carried out with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 20 students per group.

Certificate

On the last day of the course, students receive a certificate confirming the participation of the course. The final transcript will be issued to students who have attended a minimum of 70 % of all the activities.

Depending on the level of proficiency achieved by the student, a final CILS or CELI international language certification exam of level B1 or B2 will be taken. Therefore a month of the program is dedicated to the preparation of CILS proficiency examination or CELI certification exam in order to make the student familiar with the texts and techniques of these exams, to get prepared for the Italian proficiency test.

Piccola Università Italiana is an accredited Italian language exam center, therefore the proficiency test will be taken directly in our schools.

Study Path

As part of the Marco Polo Turandot project, after attending the Italian language programme in our institute and after having passed the language assessment exams CILS or CELI, students may continue their Higher Educational Studies at a University in Italy or at an AFAM (Conservatories of Music, Academies of Fine Arts and Academies of Dance).

As part of our general student service, we will provide information on universities and conservatories. We are in connection with several universities in Italy and several music conservatories for pre-enrollments for the academic year 2021-22.

NOTA BENE: Special COVID-19 information
  • Students may be offered to start the programme online, should entrance regulations not allow live face-to-face lessons in Italy. The programme may switch to face-to-face at any time, as soon as students are allowed to enter the country.
  • Fortunately, COVID-19 infections in the regions where our Italian language institutes are located were very low. In particular, Calabria’s rate of contagion as per today has dropped to zero: no Italian and even European region can boast a similar situation
  • Students will be assured the maximum level of hygiene controll on our premises. A strict COVID-19 protocoll will be in place from July 6, 2020 (the date of reopening of the school after the closure, due to COVID-19).
  • Students are guaranteed a constant flow of information in regards to rules and regulations in the respective region (Friuli Venezia Giulia or Calabria).
    A vademecum in regards to these rules and regulations will be made available in Chinese language.
